Kyrgyzstan has 3 peaks over 7000 meters (~23,000 feet): Pobedy (Victory, Jengish Chokosu, 7439m ~24,400'), Khan Tengri (Lord of the Sky or Lord of the Spirit, 7010m ~22,993') and Independence (also called Lenin, Kaufmann, Abu Ali ibn Sina and Avicenna, 7134m ~23,400'). The first two are on the border with China, the last with Tajikistan. Like other excursions to Asia, most have the hassle of up to 30 hours in a Russian jeep (translation: not very comfortable, not very reliable) from Bishkek to the target peak. The landscapes here are gorgeous, but if your purpose is climbing not sightseeing, for comparatively little additional expense, you gain an additional two days of what you came for!

The Antonov-2 is a perfect tundra plane: short take-off and landing, high cargo capacity, large interior with huge cargo door all make for easy entry and exit.
